Dear LMC Families:
Below are a few reminders about how we are addressing the June 4th & 9th instructional days and our response to the nationwide protest fueled by the death of George Floyd.
June 4th and 9th:
This is just a reminder that tomorrow, June 4th, and Tuesday, June 9th will be independent workdays for students and professional development days for LMC staff. On these days, students are expected to sign in to Google Classroom and complete any make-up assignments suggested by their teachers and to continue to work on long-term projects.
Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum:
On Friday, June 5th, students will participate in a homeroom activity where we will do the following:
-
Clarify and explain what’s happening in our country with regard to race and nationwide protests.
-
Discuss trauma and what can be happening with kids right now
-
Provide students with space and time to ask questions
On Monday, June 8th at 12:30 pm, students can opt-in and participate in a small group discussion by interests and identity. These groups will do the following:
-
Provide students with an opportunity to ask and answer each other’s questions
-
Provide students with an opportunity to be grouped with others who have similar interests to discuss this topic
-
Provide students with next steps
Norms for Courageous Conversations (Used also during our Restorative Justice Circles)
-
What’s said here stays here, what’s learned here leaves here unless there is permission to share
-
Speak your truth and let other people speak theirs (Use “I” statements)
-
It’s okay to ask questions
-
Be compassionate/kind
-
It’s okay to share a lot or not share at all
Thank you,
Shanna
