End-of-Year Update#2- 6/28/2020

School Header

Dear LMC Families:

Thank you for your incredible work this school year, particularly in the last three months.  As difficult as it has been, I have learned so much from our community and I hope it has brought us closer. We hope you are able to take some time off for self-care and much-needed rest. Below are a few community updates as we head into the summer.

DOE Updates

  1. Locker Clean Out and Material Drop-off: I’ve been pushing for this and I hope to hear something soon.  Our 8th graders will be the first ones allowed to drop off and collect their materials.  We are ready to go once the DOE says yes and will send a google form so you can decide on a day and time.

  2. The chancellor shared his Last Day of School Message to Families HERE

  3. Official Report Cards or Transcripts:  To access student records directly, you need to visit My Student DOE account.  If this is your first time accessing this account, please visit the Students Accounts page for guidance.

Academic

  • The LMC Math Department has created a Want More Math This Summer? 2020 to help with the learning leaks that might occur over the summer.  It also has a list of math topics per grade if you plan to get help from a tutor this summer.

  • The DOE is providing access to e-books and audiobooks for free this summer to all DOE families.  Students must use their DOE login to access; no special signup necessary. If interested, please visit https://www.schools.nyc.gov/learn-at-home/summer-learning/summer-reading to find these amazing resources. If you received a DOE-issued iPad, it will automatically have the Sora app installed to access these texts.   More information HERE.

Pandemic-Electronic Benefits Transfer Cards

These cards will be soon be sent out to parents of NYC public school children.  CECD2 has worked with NYC Council Speaker Corey Johnson’s office and other groups around the city to see if there was a way for our parent communities to help others, potentially by having parents donate their P-EBT money. While a direct donation of the cards is not possible, CECD2 would like to encourage those who are in a position to donate the money to make a  financial (potentially tax-deductible) donation to an organization that can help those experiencing food insecurity.  Please visit the website (https://www.sharemypebt.com) for more information.  A donation can also be made in places like Community Food Advocates (working with the DOE currently to assist with meal distribution) or other food pantries in local neighborhoods. Links to all this information and potential places to donate are listed on the ShareMyP-EBT website.

I will be around for much of the summer and can be reached by email. Scheduling for September is our next major task. I will keep you abreast during the upcoming month as more discussions about September’s program happens at the DOE level and at LMC.    Thank you!
